Nel 1999 nasce la sede jesina della Scuola Internazionale di Comics, grazie alla collaborazione del Direttore Generale della Scuola, Dino Caterini e Graziella Santinelli.
I corsi si svolgono in un suggestivo palazzo di archeologia industriale in Via Santa Maria, di quella che un tempo venne definita, per la propria laboriosità, la “Milano delle Marche”.
Al centro di una regione famosa nel mondo per Arte e Cultura, Jesi è infatti una delle città più dinamiche, dotata di una energica e vasta zona industriale, è attiva anche sul fronte culturale: sia in campo teatrale, musicale ed operistico grazie allo storico Teatro Pergolesi, sia in quello delle arti visive, con numerose iniziative, progetti e percorsi espositivi legati a pittura, scultura ed illustrazione. Le ridotte dimensioni della cittadina consentono inoltre di godere meglio delle sue proposte.
Proprio da questo territorio in fermento, la Scuola Internazionale di Comics di Jesi attinge i suoi insegnanti: vanto della sede sono professionisti realmente attivi nei diversi campi del fumetto, dell’illustrazione, della grafica. I migliori esperti formati ed affermati sul campo (case editrici, studi ed agenzie) a stretto contatto con l’universo lavorativo.
Accanto ad una solida preparazione teorica viene offerta, così, la possibilità di esercitarsi concretamente e formarsi grazie ad un approccio diretto con le aziende, spesso proprio in rapporto al territorio e le sue realtà.
La pratica e l’esercizio finalizzato assumono un ruolo da protagonisti. A dimostrarlo sono le esperienze sul campo dei nostri allievi: stage, collaborazioni ad eventi e mostre che arricchiscono il già nutrito curriculum di questa giovane sede.
Così, negli anni i ragazzi hanno partecipato a progetti con l’Unicef, l’Avis, il Museo della Carta e Filigrana di Fabriano, Telefono Azzurro, l’Azienda Fabercarta, Chartae, l’Esercito Italiano, la Lube Macerata, la Monteschiavo, il Festival Cartacanta, la CNA, il Museo Diocesano ecc. Realizzando esposizioni, vignette, cataloghi, copertine, illustrazioni, creazioni di loghi e mascotte.
Esperienze dirette dei ragazzi che, oltre ad aiutarli ad esprimere la loro personalità artistica e a maturare il loro bagaglio tecnico, li portano più vicini alle reali richieste del mercato del lavoro e della naturale trasformazione tecnologica propria dei settori artistici professionali.

In 1999 the International School of Comics opened its doors in Jesi, in collaboration between Dino Caterini, General Director and founder of the Rome school, and Graziella Santinelli. The courses are taught in the beautifully suggestive building in Via Castelfidardo, located in the area that precisely for its hard-working population and noteworthy industrial innovation, became known as the “Milan of the North”.
In the center of an Italian region, the Marches, famous for Art and Culture, Jesi is a town of contrasts: while boasting one of the most well preserved , intact Medievil walls dating back to the fourteenth century, -- it has also earned its reputation as a bustling modern, industrial town, knicknamed “Milan of the Marches”. Today, it is a dynamic city that, in addition to its vital industrial sector, also has a vast offering of cultural attractions: theatrical, musical, visual arts. Its Teatro Pergolesi is a jewel for operatic audiences, and the numerous exhibits of painting, sculpture and illustrations can be seen in the impressive network of museums or as part of stimulating artistic initiatives. This wonderfully dynamic territory offers the International School of Comics fertile ground for recruiting teachers; talented, successful graphic artists, illustrators, and Comic Book professionals, who work actively in the publishing industry, art studios and agencies that make up the the city’s vibrant workplace. This environment also offers invaluable professional opportunities where students can go beyond the solid theoretic preparation the school offers and concretely apply their knowledge within a work context.
Providing hands-on experience is a top priority at the school, evidenced by the many opportunities offered to students in the form of internships, collaborations, special events, and exhibits – all of which serve to complement an already rich curriculum. Over the years, students have participated in projects for Unicef, Avis, the Museum of Paper and Filigrano (Fabriano, Italy), a childrens emergency hot-line “Telefono Azzurro”, the company Fabercarta, Italian Military, the Festival Cartacanta, etc.
All of these experiences, not only help students develop and express their artistic senses and styles, but also serve to give them a glimpse into the realities of the workplace and the technological developments that continue to influence the artistic professions today.
