La Scuola Internazionale di Comics, la più importante Accademia delle Arti Figurative e Digitali presente sul territorio italiano, è stata fondata nel 1979 dal disegnatore Dino Caterini che oggi è Direttore Generale.
Per poter allargare il suo bacino di utenza a un numero sempre maggiore di allievi, la Scuola Internazionale di Comics ha aggiunto sede a sede. Ora le sue sedi sono ben 8 sparse in tutta italia: Roma, Firenze, Jesi, Pescara, Torino, Reggio Emilia, Padova e Brescia.
Luogo di fondazione della Scuola Internazionale di Comics, la sede storica di Roma si trova nella zona della città più giovane e scanzonata accanto al popolare quartiere Testaccio e a due passi dai suoi luoghi più romantici, come la decadente Isola Tiberina o il famoso Cimitero Acattolico che ospita le spoglie dei famosi poeti Keats e Shelley.
Proprio da questo territorio in fermento, la Scuola Internazionale di Comics attinge i suoi insegnanti: vanto della sede sono professionisti realmente attivi nei diversi campi del fumetto, dell’illustrazione, della grafica. I migliori esperti formati ed affermati sul campo (case editrici, studi ed agenzie) a stretto contatto con l’universo lavorativo.
Città del cinema e della nuova editoria del Fumetto, Roma è per i suoi giovani artisti un continuo stimolo: centro di scambio, punto di arrivo e di partenza, vivacissima scacchiera di quartieri multietnici, in cui le differenze si fondono, risaltano, si compenetrano e stimolano a vicenda.
In questa realtà variegata e interessante, la Scuola Internazionale di Comics accentra e promuove la cultura. Ha preso parte a molti progetti per finanziare e promuovere eventi culturali, mostre e concorsi, a iniziative per diffondere e valorizzare la cultura e il patrimonio artistico delle arti figurative, grafiche e digitali, oltre ad affiancare numerosi convegni e concorsi indetti dalle più prestigiose istituzioni presenti sul territorio.
I disegni, i bozzetti e le illustrazioni degli allievi vengono diffusi attraverso l’esposizione delle mostre itineranti, organizzate dalla Scuola Internazionale di Comics e tramite la pubblicazione di annuari, albi d’autore e riviste.

La sede di Roma della Scuola Internazionale di Comics
è ufficialmente accreditata dalla Regione Lazio.
Dal prossimo autunno 2012, alcuni corsi di formazione professionale permettono:
1) di avere punteggi in alcuni concorsi pubblici;
2) iscrizione all’ufficio Collocamento evidenziando la qualifica ottenuta;
3) mutuo riconoscimento del corso e della qualifica nei Paesi aderenti alla UE.
I corsi accreditati sono: Grafica Pubblicitaria, Grafica Visualizer, Progettista Web.

The International School of Comics, is presently one of Italy’s most important Academies of Figurative and Digital Arts. When the first school opened in Rome, Italy,in 1979, it was the first of its kind in the country, and one of the first in Europe. The school was founded by Dino Caterini, one of the most wildly imaginative comic book artists in Italy at that time. Caterini, who is still General Director of the school.
Mr. Caterini had the ability to give life not only to his comic book characters, but also to numerous creative initiatives and educational forums, that laid the groundwork for a stimulating learning environment from the start. In order to reach as many students as possible throughout Italy, The International School of Comics invested wisely and strategically, and now has a total of 9 schools in Italy: Rome, Florence, Jesi, Pescara, Turin, Reggio Emilia, Padua, Brescia and Naples. Plans for expansion to other countries are in the works for 2013.
Thanks to a host of creative industries that flourish in Rome, the school has been able to select the finest instructors, each of whom is an established professional working in one of the following industries: Comic Book publishing houses, production companies, as well as animation, graphic and cinematographic studios. These partnerships have enabled students to experiment with many different communication formats and with a vast array of work environments.
Rome, is a city known not only for its antiquities, but also for its long history in the world of Cinema and Comic Book design and production. For this reason, many students see it as an ideal place for either beginning their studies in Graphic and Visual Arts or as a stimulating place to plant roots for a successful career after finishing school. The diverse population of the city offers opportunity for exchange of ideas and cultures, which enriches the overall learning experience.
Within this context, The International School of Comics proudly accepts the role as promoter of Culture. The school organizes important exhibits and events and actively participates in numerous national competitions and trade fairs and assists students in entering prestigious national and international contests (on-line and print). All of these activities serve to highlight the artistic and cultural value of the figurative arts – graphic and digital.
Students’ work is exhibited frequently and is published in annual yearbooks, albums, and a prestigious magazine.
